You cant’t use it for music without pairing it to your phone. Time and step tracking will probably work independently unless the battery drains, in which case you need to sync to the phone to update. Unless you have the series 3 gps + cellular in which case the watch functions independently with its on digits cell plan and has no need to be paired with your phone. Seems like your needs would be better met with a Fitbit Versa 2 with Alexa built in. The price differential is significant and if you’re not looking for the bells and whistles, I would go with the Fitbit. My daughter wanted the Apple Watch because of all the extra apps and links to phone.
