• Provided you purchased the device outright, you can connect via Bluetooth only and avoid paying monthly for the service on it. I got the series 3 42mm without cellular capability.

• The watch connects to the iPhone via Bluetooth, not cellular. The watch can also connect to a WiFi network. Either way, there is no charge above what you would have paid to do the same actions using your phone. There IS a version of the Apple Watch that has a cellular radio built in. Depending on your carrier that may cost extra. This is not that Watch.
