“I am currently in a grandfathered in data plan when Cingular wireless merged with AT&T. When trying to buy the watch, it’s asking to add a line? Why do I have to change my plan to add a watch line? Is there any way around this withought that option?”

Dre I had the same issue. In order to add items such as watches, ipads, tablets, etc... You'll have to switch to a shared data plan.
