“Can the watch be used without the phone being around the area?”

• You don’t have to be in the same room though I have not tested the range. If your watch has its own plan then no not at all it can function separately

• I use it all the time when I take the dog out for his walks for a couple of miles around the neighborhood.

• The phone has to be within Bluetooth range for the watch to receive calls and messages or the watch has to be hooked to a WiFi network
