I tested it out. Sadly no. In order for Spotify app to work on your Apple Watch for streaming music you will need to connect to your IPhone. On the other hand if you have music already synced on your iPhone through the Music App I’m able to listen freely without having my phone near me. Also I’m currently using the 3month free trial Apple Music and it works perfect when downloading songs for offline. Apple Watch will need to be charging for songs to be downloaded from your iPhone to your Apple Watch.
