If you don’t continue the subscription after the free trial your cameras will not record when triggered. You will only receive a notification that there was motion on a particular camera. Had I known this I would not have purchased these cameras.

Well, I guess that is correct, but, it doesn't record video unless you put a USB in. Then, to see a recording you have to eject and install in a computer to view. Been better off just buying another Arlo pro and done away with the spotlight. Live and learn.

Subsctiption are required for Arlo newest product innovation (NPI) cameras like your Arlo essential spotlight camera. If you wish not to subscribe to the plan for you Essential Spotlight camera, you can use USB drive to be inserted at the back of the base station since the camera is linked to it so that the footage for the spotlight camera will be stored locally using the hard drive. However, you need to unplug the hard drive from the base station and be inserted in the computer to view the footage.
