“I want to be able to shut the camera system down when home and only have it on when sleeping or not home. Is this an option with your product? This certainly would make the batteries last longer.There’s no need kicking the camera on continuously when up.”

Just go into your settings, and you will see a switch to turn camera OFF/ON. Just switch the camera OFF when you're not using it, and ON when you're sleeping or not home. The batteries will last a really long time if you do that.
