“I have read two different things, do the cameras connect wirelessly to the BASE that comes with the system, or do they connect to your WIFI network? If it is the BASE what is the approximate range? Need about 100 ft from house, 150' from current router”

You must connect the Arlo camera base station to your local network router via Ethernet.. The Arlo cameras communicate to their associated base station wirelessly. How far you can get from the base depends on many factors including where the base station is in the house (the base station is not for use outdoors).. You may want to start with one camera with one base setup, do a test, and then return if it does not meet your needs. You will also get a better idea of if the camera’s field of vision and motion detection range meet your needs. Note also the further the camera is away from the base may adversely impact camera battery life due to diminished signal between the base and camera. As a side note the Arlo lights are different. The Arlo light base station is connected wirelessly to your home’s network and communicates to the individual lights via bluetooth. Arlo lights can trigger Arlo cameras and the reverse, but that is handled within settings you make in the Arlo network via the app. I have multiple generations of the Arlo cameras/base stations with many cameras. I also have the lights. If you have the right expectations and benefit from the total wire free aspects of the cameras and the lights they are great products, BUT you should not be comparing them to a professionally installed high resolution security camera system that has panning and zoom, continuous recording, etc. As long as your expectations match the real features of the Arlo products AND you don’t mind “ladder work” when it is time to change the batteries (unless you add the solar panels) you will find they are useful and in many ways remarkable for what they are able to do.

I have my base in my basement and all my cameras outside and I think 1 is about 60-70 ft or so away and works (takes a little bit longer for it to connect than the other but works). That's going thru concrete and wood and whatever else is in house walls. So I would think it could go farther if had on your main floor/no major barriers. The website should have more details on distance.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The base unit connects to your router via an Ethernet cable. The cameras are then individually synced wirelessly to the base. At that distance, it is recommended you use a network extender and connect the base via Ethernet to the network extender.
