This model unit is running Chrome OS not Windows OS. Its not compatible with Microsoft Office. You can use Google Docs, Sheets, etc which is similar with Microsoft Office. It's not possible to use Skype on Chromebooks, but you can add the Hangouts app from the Chrome Web Store to video chat, instant message, or make phone calls.

Please try again later.Speaking for my own opinion, please do not get your kids Chromebooks like this one; it has only 2Gig of RAM and a 32-bit architecture, and while they may be capable of using OpenOffice (a free program which can read much of Microsoft Office's document formats) or Skype or facebook chat, they will be slow and laggy. Longterm owners of chromebooks, please post your experience and workarounds! Maybe there is a way.
