• Yes. I also have voice mail through my carrier and choose to use that service instead of the supplied answering machine. Just leave the answering machine button turned off.

• Yes, you can use the phone with out using the voicemail part of the system. You just don't turn it on.

• Yes it can be turned off as I also have voice mail service provided by my phone service

• Yes, you can turn the answer machine on and off with a push of a button on the main receiver.
