Yes it’s an AT&T hot spot that uses cellular data. That said, AT&T pay as you go plan is available as well as third party AT&T resellers such as netbuddy, otr, etc. Read the bottom line on throttling and data caps.

I am using the AT&T Hotspot Feature with the Netgear Nighthawk MR1. I have used the AT&T Netgear Nighthawk in Remote areas about 40 miles from the closest city and 60 miles in the middle of nowhere. In those areas I have been from 3 bars of Weak to Medium, up to full bars at Strong. The downloads started at 35 to 70 but at peak times of traffic dropped all the way down to 10 on downloads and 3 on uploads. With no traffic interference it can balance out to 25 up and down. I think this is a tool best used with no other connection capable locations. Just my thought though. I don't know if I answered the question or not, but I hope that it possibly helps.
