It requires cell service. So if you are in a spot that has no cell service this will not work. If you go up the hill or down the hill this would’ve worked. The one big difference about this device and a cell phone is that it has to external antenna boards. It is possible to put a directional antenna on a pole and be able to get a signal that his cell phone never would. But you have to buy that additionally. Are use this for camping all the time. Just make sure you understand where AT&T coverage begins and ends because even with an antenna on a poll if you are in an area with no service this will not work.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Well that depends. This will run off the AT&T backbone and only that backbone, so if you have Verizon or something else this may get service where your normal phones would not, or vise versa, depending on what you were working on and what towers are up out there where you camp. You would need to check the area with a phone that has the AT&T service. Mine works very well, however when I am hiking or camping I never expect (and seldom get) service with any carrier. I am guessing the bottom like is there is a lot of canyons and mountains where I like to hike and beyond that it prolly doesn’t make much fiscal sense to put a tower in the middle of no where.
