“If I purchase this item full price from Best Buy how will I know it has been unlocked?”

This is not an unlocked device. But from what I read from others you should be able to get it unlocked pretty easily. Just go to AT&T website and find the device unlocking form. If it’s a fully paid device AT&T should approve the unlock with out having service from AT&T.
