We use Alexa to lock and also unlock. Ours runs very smoothly and quietly. Only thing I wish it did was auto lock when you are in away status.

You can lock and unlock from just about anywhere where you have an internet connection. It also works with the August Phone App which is also great. By the way you can also inquire whether the door is locked and Alexa will answer and tell you whether it is locked or unlocked. You will have to set up a security code to unlock with Alexa voice commands. This prevents someone from simply yelling at the top of their lungs at your front door "Alexa unlock the front door" and walking in. Alexa will ask you to provide the security code before she will unlock the door. That's not the case if you use the August App on your phone. You simply hit the unlock button in the app and it unlocks from wherever you are. You can also use the app to check the status of the door from just about anywhere. Couple this with the front door camera and you are good to go. I have found this system works great, very smooth and very quiet. I have used it multiple times to open the door for my assistant who needs to pick up something or my wife when she is returning from a trip so she doesn't even have to put her bags down to get in. She hasn't put the app on her phone yet. I guess she could yell at Alexa from the front door and then yell the security code but then the whole neighborhood would know the code. Instead she just calls me as she is driving home and I open it as she pulls in the driveway. NICE!!!!!
