We have never used the August lock because we didn't have the code. we would like to change the key lock and not use the August lock. Will re-keying the regular lock affect the august lock in anyway. Do we just need to keep the keys that we have? null

No. The August device is just a motorized gadget that operates the interior deadbolt knob.

Thank you for your question. The August Smart Lock doesn't replace the deadbolt (key lock). Therefore, you should be able to rekey your deadbolt without any effects on the August Lock because the smart locks are designed to retrofit single-cylinder deadbolts.

I'm guessing that when you say you didn't have the code, you're referring to the keypad.  You don't actually need the keypad to operate the lock.  (In fact, I never even installed the keypad for mine.)  But you do need the August software on your smartphone.

The August Smart Lock replaces the hardware inside the house for your deadbolt.  Because of this, you shouldn't have any troubles when you re-key the lock because that should only affect the exterior portion of the lock.  The only reason you might have to change anything regarding the August would be if you replace the exterior hardware with another brand of deadbolt in which case you may have to change the lock adapter (the small plastic cylinders that allow the August to engage and disengage the deadbolt.
