its a type of wifi just like dji occusync is a type of wifi. Most people that aren't dji fan boys are already saying that Autels transmission system for video and rc are occusync 2 or better. Autel evo 2 is the farthest fastest and longest flying drone atm july 4 2020

Autel and DJI run on the 2.4 GHz band similar to most home wi-fi which is why you'll sometimes experience video or control loss if used in a heavily dense wi-fi area (i.e. around a lot of homes in a crowded neighborhood). I believe DJI will do some frequency switching to 5.8 GHz which gives it more range, but the EVO can get you a good mile or two out without too much problem, being mindful, of course, that battery life and the FAA requirement to fly within Visual Line of Sight (VLoS) also play into any flight decisions. I've had mine up at the FAA-mandated 400 foot altitude limt a little over 3/4 mile away in an open area with rock-solid video and control connection. For recreational flying you shouldn't have any problems.

The controller has a built in monitor with a pretty good camera image and includes all the controls and settings. If you do use a phone or tablet you must use a cable to physically attach the to the controller. I use my EVO in many places that have no WiFi signal of any kind, but still connect to the drone and get outstanding image transmission...no WiFi needed.
