“My iPhone 8+ is in a protective case. When I stand it up to charge, it immediately starts charging & the LED light on charger is white, then a minute or so later, it stops charging & the LED light on charger turns orange. Anyone had this happen?”

Try repositioning the phone for a better connection. Align it the best you can to prevent this
