“is this cool to the touch during use? I have small children in my house and need the assurance this won't get warm or hot to the touch when being used.”

After one cycle of toasting the sides are safe to touch. But the top where the bread is inserted gets HOT!

Yes it is hot to touch when in use! Personally I don't know of any toaster that is not hot when in use!

I have kids and have not a worry... it’s hot inside obviously but the exterior doesn’t get past warm. keep the kids off the countertops and you should be fine ;)
