Within 14 days which is return period, but go into a store so they can return your item and resell it to you with the Total Tech membership.

I think the plan can be purchased for any item. But do it before the item needing repair is checked in to Geek Squad Repair Service. I signed up when I took a tower that wasn't purchased at Best Buy in for service. And I paid just before they wrote up the PC repair ticket. So, yes, you can still sign up after you buy something. The plan is coverage for one year only. It saves me about $200.00 on my repair. Well worth it.
