Before we had this carpet cleaner we had a bunny at the time that would urinate on the carpet sometimes which had very strong smell. Since we did not have a carpet cleaner at the time we used the pretreatment spray by Bissell for pet stains and odors to clean treat and clean the areas and the arm & hammer pet odor powder to cover the area after it has been cleaned and treated with the Bissell spray. This combination was the only thing that got the smell out. Now that we no longer have a bunny, but we have a dog we still have to use the combination of the spray and powder simply for the dog odor to be gone because the times we tried cleaning the carpet the pet smell was still there and was worse like you said. So now we use the spray and powder prior to cleaning the carpet the smell is gone afterwards.
