I'd give it an 8. I haven't had any frustrations with it for normal househol cleaning, but there are stronger vacuums out there. It's fine for pet hair stuck to furniture and carpet, as well as crumbs and the normal debris one would expect to find in living spaces. It works equally well on hard surfaces and carpets, but I would recommend turning the brush spinner on or off depending on what you're picking up, as the spinner can launch larger particles back.
