“does it work on a carpet? I live in dorm and my room is carpeted. Not a large room and I was wondering if it's okay to use this to pick up hair and stuff”

It is likely to get the bits and pieces that are lying on TOP of the carpet pile but I don't think it will get what is in the pile or down deep. There are other vacuums that will better for that purpose, imo.
