No you don’t have to it’s optional

NO - but you can pay for cloud storage if you want to. We used a SD card inserted into the base that stores every video - the app you put on your phone tells you when it is full. It is easy to view the SD card on your PC to delete files and move them to your PC if you want to save them. You can also access the files on the SD card from your phone app and view/save them there. Note that it comes with 30 days of free cloud storage that you can not turn off for that period. After the 30 days all videos are stored on the SD card at no charge.
