No, you only need the subscription to save the photos/videos to a cloud platform. You can save them locally if you wish or just delete them.

Another storage option is local storage, activated by plugging a USB flash drive into a Sync Module 2. Local storage has no recurring fee to use the feature. Either of these storage options will let you view clips remotely from your phone. Without a storage system for your clips your system will be able to detect motion, notify you of the motion, and live view.
