It comes with 30days free trial cloud storage but You are not obligated to pay for the cloud subscription, if you have the sync module, you can insert a usb drive into the module to save your video clips locally.

You get notifications when there's motion, and you can watch live video to see who's at the door. But without a subscription you cannot record motion or live video, and you cannot take photos. From my experience, this is pretty much the norm for video doorbells.
