I had the same issue. The answer is yes. Which is kinda crazy.Then you will have to go through the wired setup to make the doorbell work. I actually called tech support about this. It’s still a great doorbell.

The Blink video doorbell should always have batteries installed in it, regardless of being wired in to a doorbell chime.
