Hello, mcdanielth! Yes, you can absolutely use the Blink app to talk to a person at your door without paying for a subscription. Basic features like Live View, Two-Way Audio, and Motion/Doorbell Notifications do not require a monthly fee. However, how you access that live feed to talk to visitors depends heavily on whether or not you have a Blink Sync Module. If you use the doorbell completely on its own, it operates in Event Response Mode to save battery. How it works: You cannot open the app and start a Live View on-demand whenever you want. How to talk: When someone presses the doorbell or triggers motion, you will get a notification on your phone. You must tap that notification within 60 seconds to open the live feed and talk to the person.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is a subscription for our cloud storage, but customers are not required to use it. Another storage option is local storage, activated by plugging a USB flash drive into a Sync Module 2 (or a Micro SD card into a Sync Module XR). Local storage has no recurring fee to use the feature. Either of these storage options will let you view clips remotely from your phone. Without a storage system for your clips your system will be able to detect motion, notify you of the motion, and live view.
