There's a sync module that connects using WiFi - it doesn't plug into the router physically. No light comes on when recording (otherwise it wouldn't be descrete); if it's too dark it uses infrared to "see" - works surprisingly well - but images are greyscale in this mode.

There is no flash, the night mode on the XT works with IR. The glowing blue indicator light on the XT has the option to be turned off for stealth recording
