Its there if you would like to wire your sub to the soundbar instead of wirelessly attach it. Or if you want to wire one and buy another one and have a second sub somewhere else wirelessly.

The 3.5 mm Acoustimass input on the back of the SoundTouch 300 soundbar is for an optional wired connection to the Acoustimass 300 wireless bass module, rather than pairing the two wirelessly over Bluetooth. Please try again later.These holes are for the Bass you want to place the bar about one foot in front of a wall it will actually use the environment to create what's called Stadium sound and give you a much Fuller experience I have a YouTube channel and I have made 3 videos that might be of help.
