Hi, thanks for the great question. The noise cancellation of the QC25 refers to the noise the user hears, it doesnt filter the noise going out to callers. No. Background noise wont affect your phone

Loud noises come through, but they're softer. I have Bose ON the ear headphones. When I plugged the 25 noise cancelling in, I turned my iPhone down 25 to 30 percent, because I'm no longer competing with outside noise.. Because they're over the ear that blocks some sound. The cancelling blocks almost all the rest. 
 I'm happy with the purchase.
