• No you will have to use the Bose remote to operate your TV and other devices for it to work properly.

• Apparently not. If you use a device like a high end Receiver (I have a Yamaha) to channel all your devices into one HDMI output, then the audio is controlled by that Receiver device and doesn't even get transmit to the TV.
