Most likely yes. Using IR codes you should be able to setup your remotes to control the soundbar's volume. For example, I setup my directv and apple tv remotes to control the volume.

Whether the system will work with a third party remote would depend on that remote, so it is difficult to say. We do have a universal remote which can control other devices like a dvd player, tv, and cable/satellite box. That universal remote comes with the system.

the remote that comes with it can be programmed to run almost any device. I have it running my Dish receiver, tv, dvd player and Xbox 360 perfectly.

I use an Optical Cable to connect the sound-bar to the TV.

I have "Spectrum" as my cable provider, the Spectrum remote can control the Cable Box, TV and sound-bar, use the instructions of the remote to connect the sound-bar

to the "Aux" port of the control.
