If you are using the Bose app to connect to Soundlink Flex, all controls can be made with your phone or other device connected to the SoundLink Flex.

It's true that the SoundLink Flex speaker doesn't feature a mute button, therefore you would need to use the TV remote to mute the audio. This would, however, prevent you from having to go to where the speaker is in order to mute it.
