YES to BOTH. It can do an alarm, start a cd or audio source, or the radio. When our old Airstream is parked, it is my SO's mancave, this is where he listens to his Bose while tinkering, he has added speakers to the fore of the Airstream so we can listen on the road, the phone App makes a terrific remote for this. The sound is nothing short of ASTOUNDING!! The fact that such a tiny system, with the two speakers placed so close together can produce such sound, blows my mind. You will not be disappointed by this purchase.
