I use mine sporadically and might send 3-5 faxes one month, then no faxes again for several months. The unit is pretty well contained so I've never had any issues with the film at all. Maybe a very minuet amount of dust on the film, but that was it. Only a few inches of the film are exposed within the fax unit itself. If something did happen to a section of the film, like a small hole, a small rip, or a dust build-up, you could remove the film roller assembly from fax. Then manually roll advance the roll a few inches until a nice, clean section of film is seen. Then re-install into fax machine and resume faxing and/or copying. I've never seen the film roll disintegrate, nor decay due to age inside of the fax machine. Not sure if a high humidity environment would cause the film to "stick together" or not. I've used one unit in a southwestern, desert environment. Also in a Midwestern, rainy, humid environment. Never any problems in either type of climate.
