Have you pulled out the drum/toner cartridge combination and used the "corona wire cleaner" lever at the far end of the assembly? It is a rectangular green slider that you move a few times back and forth, and it cleans any debris clinging to the "charging" or "corona wire" inside the drum assembly. If toner clings to the wire you will find the kind of vertical line(s) you describe. If that doesn't solve the problem, it is likely that the drum has been damaged or was defective. Those are the only two explanations I can think of. Hope that helps!
