There are aftermarket options for many printers. However, remember that the warranty will be voided if you ever have a problem later on. I learned the hard way about aftermarket ink when I had my old inkjet printer. It clogged up the printer so bad I couldn't clean it out and the cost to have it professionally cleaned was more than simply buying a new printer. Now I buy the brand name stuff.

Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty may not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third-party supplies.
