If my black ink is empty can I print in color only null

no All four colors must be present to print. I found this out the hard way

I wish my answer were different but unfortunately even when I am printing only in Black I can't get my printer to do anything without all of the toner cartridges being usable. I really hate this but it's the way it works. I like to keep an extra black on hand for emergencies and print in black only when I can to save money and toner. Sorry Safety!

I tried doing that with mine, it wouldn't let me.

I don't think it will print even if it is set to print black only. At least mine won't. Yours might be different.

If I remember reading the instructions correctly, I'm positive you need a black cartridge in it. But you are going to need it eventually so you might as well get one.

In my experience, no. This is one downfall of brother printers but my old HP inkjet printer did the same thing.
