It depends on the model of the printer. Most require all colors to have toner left to operate. I got lucky and happened to get one of the few that can print with only black toner remaining.

Depends upon your lucky day or not. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You are supposed to be able to reset the toners so you can, go on Youtube and you'll see videos about how to do it...really simple...only rarely seems to work.

I believe you can select for it to just print document in black, instead of color.

If your machine's cyan, magenta, or yellow toners run out, you can choose Mono in the printer driver to allow you to keep printing. You'll be able to keep printing until the black toner runs out. When the black toner runs out, you won't be able to print until you replace it.

Yes! But on documents that need color, it will look quite different but it will still print.

Yes you can. You just select to print black and white from your computer and/or change it on the printer itself.
