• the opening on the face plate is actually over 1 1/2" the curved part comes off also so that you can push the plug thru without any problems. highly recommend.

• Try the Insignia Cable Pass, since the hood piece slides off to pull the plug through. Once the plug is through, you just slide the hood back on.

• Yes, if the cap on the cover plate is removed and then replaced after the the plug is slipped through the cover plate.
