Hi jojo, thanks for taking the time to leave a question. This model can use recirculating venting and external venting. Recirculating venting takes air from your kitchen, passes it through the charcoal filter, and then blows it back into the room. External venting removes air from your kitchen takes it through the ductwork, and blows it to the outside of your home. Page 11 of this unit's installation instructions is the starting page for venting and offers page numbers for each style. We hope this helps and that you're staying safe. -Michael@Cafe

From the installation guide: Ventilation Options: The microwave ovens are designed for adaptation to the following three types of ventilation: -Outside exhaust (vertical – as shown) -Outside exhaust (horizontal) -Recirculating (non-vented ductless – see Filter Kit drawing)
