I would not recommend this outside. You would need to purchase the outdoor model.

humidity should not be a problem, we have one in our main kitchen and we cook a lot,has not affected the canary device.It also reports the room temperature.

Yes, you should be able to use outside in a screened in porch. Be careful to not place this in an area where direct sunlight hits it. This would go for any camera though... you can set your temperature settings low or high for alerts.
