Yes you need Wi Fi to operate the Canary. Your phone also needs GPS turned on so the Canary can arm and disarm when you leave and return home.

Yes. It was challenging to set it up on my fios wifi. I called both Canary and Verizon and ended up having to use the ether net cable to set it up.
