• Yes, you can use your own lens choice... but it needs to either be an R mount or you'll need an R mount adaptor for any of the EF mount lenses. Honestly that 24-105 kit lens is quite amazing though, and I feel it's worth the kit price - especially if you can get one on sale.

• Yes you can skip out on it. If you already have Canon EF lenses then just buy the adapter and you are good to go. Focusing is as good as on a DSLR.
