• Yes, there is a hot shoe in addition to the pop up flash. There are some special effects features but I have not tried them yet. At first glance they seem to be a basic effects package, nothing extraordinary.

• It has a hot shoe and comes with an installed pop-up-when-needed flash. Special effects? I guess I'm not what you mean. You can change the ISO and WB, but I think things like negative color themes, blurs, etc, need to be done in post processing. I hope this helps!
