A:Answer - Friend, that would depend on how long-ago you purchased that Canon camera & lens, or lenses... Back in the FILM days, until around year 2000, or so, Canon FILM cameras had the "F-mount". That had a fairly-large ring ( diameter ~ 2.5 in.) that served as a "collar", holding lens onto the camera. That "F-mount" was Canon - standard for most of their SLR's, like the AE-1 (film), etc. (Sorry, I wasn't a Canon shooter back then...) These modern "pro-sumer", digital cameras, on Canon, use an "EF-mount", and slightly different for Professional, full-frame Canon DSLRs (Digital, Single Lens Reflex). So... Are you describing an old film camera, that has a "ring-collar" to hold the lens-on (F-mount) ??
If you have an old, film camera, with that ring-collar "F-mount" -- that lens will NOT be usable on more modern, Canon - digital bodies.
Modern Canon DSLR cameras capture great images. I am very satisfied with my Canon T-3, with "kit lens", and other lenses I have added.
