Yes and No. It can take fairly close up photos as is. But, special close up lenses are readily available that screw into the 58 mm front of the included lense. I've picked up a 10d, 4d and two other lenses for around $10. Take a look at a photo of a dime with this setup.

Yes, there's also a setting on the camera for close ups.
