• Ha, I had the same issue, but finallly figured it out. If you use 8x14 paper then the paper tray will stick out. This piece will cover the gap. If you notice there are two pegs on the underside along the longer straight side. They fit into two holes along the inside rim of the paper tray. The flat smooth side is the topside. Hope that is helpful. Crazy that there is no explanation.

• Its a dust cover for the paper drawer for when you use oversize paper and the tray sticks out.
