If you are referring to toner cartridges, yes, some models have ridiculously high priced replacement cartridges (even after market) that can almost justify the cost of a new printer. This model, however, has very economical replacement toner, especially if you source them from *quality* aftermarket vendors. If you do this the cost per page goes down exponentially.

Replacement ink should last a lot longer and often you can purchase high capacity ink and toner cartridges. Ink jets seem to clog up over time so you may want to replace the units every so often. My last lazer printer lasted 8 years so I only buy color laser printers anymore. Make sure whatever unit, check replacement ink/toner costs before you purchase and the number pages they claim to print so you can find lower cost units to maintain.
