I apologize, I answered the question but I mixed up my cameras. This wasn't the 4k one I have used, it's the HD 1080p. But it is similar, and should still be able to be plugged into an external monitor or TV. A cheap TV or monitor should work with it. I know usually, I can just plug the camera into the TV and get the screen displayed and then show my photos or videos to my friends.

Although, you could probably have the HDMI output display the screen on a TV for you. I record videos for others using this camera, but haven't used it on myself but if you set everything up, have it focus where you will be (maybe have an object on a pole where you would stand and focus on the object) and know where the image boundaries are, it should be fine. I love the 4K recording option!
